Rajinikanth's "Lingaa" has witnessed a huge drop in its business at the Andhra Pradesh and Nizam (AP/N) box office centres in its second weekend. Blame it on Aamir Khan's "PK", which has taken a toll on its collection in these regions.
Having debuted with overwhelming response, "Lingaa" had raked in over ₹15 crore at the Tollywood box office in the first week. In its second weekend, the Rajinikanth starrer clashed with Bollywood movie "PK" and some Telugu movies such as "Chandrakala", "Chusinodiki Chusinanta", "Jagannayakudu", "O Manishi Katha", "Premisthe Poye Kalam", "Thurum" and "Parker Gajadonga".
"Lingaa", which was screened in a record number of theatres in the first week, lost out a huge chunk of its screen count to all these new releases in both the states. The reduced-number of cinema halls was one big blow to the KS Ravikumar-directed movie, which witnessed more than 55% drop in its business in its second weekend.
"Lingaa" had garnered mixed reviews from both viewers and critics. In its opening week, it was the solo release and there was no other option for movie buffs. But in the second week, some of the new releases got positive response from viewers and they become the first choice over the Rajinikanth starrer.
In its second weekend, "Lingaa" collected approximately ₹4.5 crore at the AP/N box office. With its 10-day total collection reaching ₹25 crore, the movie has recovered the investments of the distributors in both regions. While "PK" topped the business charts in Tollywood box office, "Lingaa" has landed at the second place.
Among the eight new releases, "PK" is the most-hyped and highly-awaited movie. Made on a whopping budget, the Bollywood movie was released in over 200 cinema halls in both the states and got a fantastic opening everywhere. Running in to packed houses, the film has raked approximately ₹5 crore at the AP/N box office over the first weekend.
Other new releases such as "Chandrakala", "Chusinodiki Chusinanta", "Jagannayakudu, "O Manishi Katha", "Premisthe Poye Kalam", "Thurum" and "Parker Gajadonga" were released in over 600 screens and got decent response from the viewers. Together they have collected approximately ₹5 crore at the AP/N box office in their opening weekend.
