Aamir Khan's Dangal is months away from release, but the actor has already shown it to some of his closest friends in the industry. The superstar decided to hold a special screening on Shabana Azmi's 66th birthday, and the verdict is positive.
The premise may be similar, but when it comes to the storyline, Dangal isn't anything close to Sultan. While the Salman Khan-starrer dealt with its protagonist's internal conflicts and how he battles and at times embraces them, Dangal is about the struggle of an elderly wrestling coach to get his daughters to become champions in the sport.
"It is not a film about wrestling like Sultan. It's about a wrestler's efforts to train his daughters in wrestling. It's a heartwarming effort. At a time when cinema like Pink and Parched simply address the question of women's empowerment, Aamir's Dangal will show him to be a true champion of feminism," a source told BollywoodLife.
Shabana too couldn't stop praising the emotionally beautiful story of Dangal. She appreciated the performances and the story arc. "The gender politics are so relevant for the times and the unexpected climax will make even the most hardened heart cry. It is emotional without being sentimental. It's a hundred percent winner," Shabana added.
The trailer of Dangalis expected to be released around Diwali and will most likely be attached to the prints of Shivaay and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the sports-drama film will arrive in theatres on December 23.
Dangal stars Aamir in the lead and Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra in supporting roles.
