Bollywood actor-filmmaker Aamir Khan and his director wife Kiran Rao share a very special relationship and their chemistry always gives us relationship goals. Kiran is Aamir's second wife and they both began dating only after he had divorced from his first wife Reena Dutta.
We all know this story, at least the hardcore Aamir Khan fans do. We also know about his love story with Reena and how he used to write to her in blood (do not try it at home!).
But several Aamir Khan fans don't know much about him and are curious about his personal life, especially his newfound fans in China. Aamir Khan's film Dangal was a blockbuster in China, beating the biggest Hollywood and local releases, and creating a record at the box office. No wonder then, the genius of a star has many fans in the country.
In an interaction with a Chinese media person, Aamir Khan opened up about falling in love with Kiran Rao, who was part of the crew of his film Lagaan. "I met Kiran when I was doing Lagaan. She was one of the ADs (assistant directors) on that, but at that time, we didn't have any relationship, we were not even great friends. She was one of the people on the unit," he said.
"It was after my separation and divorce (from Reena) after some time that I met her (Kiran) again. In that moment of trauma, her phone came and I talked to her on the phone for half an hour. And when I put the phone down, I said, 'My God! I feel so happy when I talk to her.' It struck me in that instant that when I am talking to her I am so happy," he revealed.
"So then we began dating, and we lived together for a year or year-and-a-half before we got married," revealed the Thugs of Hindostan actor. Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao got married in 2005.
"I can never imagine a life without Kiran as my partner. I feel very blessed and I am very grateful in my life... she is a wonderful person and I am very lucky to have her in my life," Aamir gushed. "We are very close and we love spending time together. We're constantly laughing when we're together because we find (that) our sense of humour is quite similar."
Aamir was all praise for his ex-wife Reena, too, when asked whether he liked strong women. "I like strong women," he said, "My first wife Reena. My second wife Kiran. I like people who are strong. I don't want to bring them down to women and men."
"She (Reena) is a wonderful person as well. Sometimes a relationship doesn't work but I have a lot of love and respect for her. In fact, we are working together on this Paani (Foundation) project. She is the COO (chief operating officer) of the company," he said.
Aamir Khan has been travelling to China on special visits and took a tour of the country during Dangal. His 2017 film Secret Superstar was also a record-breaker in China, prompting another Bollywood superstar, Salman Khan to release his two films Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan in China.
Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao have a son, Azad Rao Khan, who born via surrogacy. Aamir and Reena have two children, son Junaid Khan and daughter Ira Khan.
