Aamir Khan, who is busy shooting for "Dangal," recently confirmed the release date of the film has not changed and that it would hit theatres during the Christmas holidays this year.
While it is known that Aamir is essaying the role of wrestler Mahavir Phogat in "Dangal," the "PK" actor, during his 51st birthday celebrations, revealed the plot of the film. Aamir said the story of "Dangal" is about women's empowerment. It would revolve around the wrestler's daughters, who fulfil their father's dream, Press Trust of India (PTI) reports.
Interestingly, Salman Khan will also be seen playing the role of a wrestler in Yash Raj Films' "Sultan." Salman plays Haryanvi wrestler Sultan Ali Khan in the film, which is slated to hit the theatres in July.
Talking about the similarity between the two films, Aamir said films on wrestling will only promote the sport. "Themes will never get old. Love stories will always remain fresh. The film has to connect with the people; that's what I believe. Wrestling is a very ancient sport and well-loved sports. It is great to have two films coming on wrestling. It'll give a boost to the sport of wrestling," Aamir said.
"Dangal" will mark the "Dhoom 3" actor's return to the big screen after a gap of two years. His last film was "PK" (2014). Apparently, "Dangal" will feature three different stages in Phogat's life. Aamir will play a 19-year-old teenager, a 27-year-old, but a major portion of the film will see him as a 55-year-old man.
Newcomers Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra will play the role of Phogat's daughters, Geeta and Babita Kumari, respectively. Television actress Sakshi Tanwar will be seen as Aamir's wife in the film.
