Aakash Tablet Maker DataWind Launches Budget PocketSurfer Series Smartphones in India

DataWind popularly known for its affordable Aakash tablet range has launched the company's first smartphones series dubbed as PocketSurfer in India.

The UK based company has announced three handsets- PocketSurfer 5X, 5 and 3G5 with price-tags ₹3,499, ₹4,999 & ₹6,499 respectively. Prospective buyers can purchase these handset online at the official company site.

PocketSurfer 5X, the cheapest among the trio sports 5.0-inch WQVGA TFT screen and runs on the Linux OS powered  by a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor with a battery capable of giving back up for 3 hours of talk time and a full day under standby mode.

On the other hand, PocketSurfer 5 too flaunts a 5.0 inch WVGA display, but features Android v4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS, 1GHz Cortex A9 CPU, 2.0-megapixel main camera and a VGA front camera.

PocketSurfer 3G5 houses 5.0-inch WVGA capacitive display, a faster 1.2GHz dual-core Cortex A7 processor, Android v4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS, 5.0-megapixel primary camera and a VGA snapper on the front for video chat.

Going through spec list of these three smartphones, we see that the features are sub-par and leave much to be desired. Hence, the company will have tough time convincing prospective consumers to invest their money on their smartphones, when people can find more feature-rich budget phones offered by local vendors like Micromax, Karbonn Mobiles and others for the same price range.
