The winners of National Film Awards 2017 have received the prestigious trophies for their performances and contributions to Indian cinema during the year 2016 in a grand event that took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on April 3. Indian President Pranab Mukherjee gave away the awards.

Malayalam actress Surabhi Lakshmi went live on her Facebook page hours before the 64th National Film Award distribution ceremony. Surabhi, who bagged the Best Actress Award for her performance in the movie Minnaminungu, expressed happiness over the recognition accorded to her by the National award jury.

The actress sported Kerala attire and traditional ornaments. Superstar Mohanlal launched the official website of Surabhi in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The superstar has bagged his fifth National award for his performances in the film Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, Pulimurugan and Janatha Garage. However, soon after jury chairman Priyadarshan announced the winners list of 64th National Awards, many netizens accused the filmmaker of playing favourites as he picked his close buddies, Akshay Kumar and Mohanlal, for the awards. Also, the Mollywood star's Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, which was considered for the award, was released in 2017.

Peter Hein, who won the award for best stunt master- a newly introduced category, thanked audience for their immense support.
