Children were playing cricket in Hyderabad's Vanasthalipuram area on Thursday when the ball hit a six-year-old boy's chest, leading to his death.
The boy, Vamshi Krishna, was playing a cricket match with other children (mostly below 12 years of age) in the neighbourhood at Sahara Estate close to his house, when the ball hit him.
"The boy collapsed on the ground. Alerted by other boys, locals rushed him to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead," Vanasthalipuram ACP Bhaskar told The Hindu.
Although no one has been held responsible for the minor's death, the police have registered a case under section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code.
"Though no one had any intention to cause injury, a case was registered and investigation is on," Bhaskar said.
Earlier this month, Kolkata cricketer Ankit Keshri died after suffering an on-field collision while trying to take a catch.
