A 35-year-old man, his wife and their three daughters were found dead in a house in the Dhumanganj area on Monday night (August 20). The man, who has been identified as Manoj Kushwaha alias Bhullu, was found hanging from the ceiling fan.
The Allahabad police have also recovered the bodies of Kushwala's three daughters from a suitcase, an almirah and a room respectively.
"The man's body was found hanging, his wife's body was found stuffed inside a fridge, one of the daughters was stuffed inside a suitcase and the other in an almirah," India Today quoted Nitin Tiwari, Senior Superintendent of Police of Allahabad as saying.
According to Tiwari, preliminary investigations suggest that the 35-year-old man murdered his wife and his daughters before taking his own life.
The alleged suicide and the murders came to light after neighbours grew suspicious after finding that Kushwala had closed the door of their house on Monday afternoon and had not opened it since then. They then alerted the police, following which the cops broke down the door and found the dead bodies.
The cops are currently investigating the case. The reason behind the alleged suicide is yet to be ascertained. The cops are also trying to find out whether the family was facing financial problems.
This is not the first time that several members of one family have been found dead.
In early July, 11 members of a family were found hanging at their home in Delhi's Burari. Their death had come as a shock to many as the family faced no money-related problems. Further investigations revealed that the family had killed themselves as part of a "thanksgiving ritual".
The police had recovered a register that had details of the ritual. The instructions for the suicide were listed under a title which said "Bhagwaan ka raasta (Road to god)". Reports also said that the Burari family suffered from a "shared psychosis," due to which they believed that the late father of Lalit Bhatia was speaking to them and wanted them to perform the ritual.
In a similar incident, seven members of the family including two children, their parents, an uncle and their grandparents were found dead at their residence in Kanke police station area in Jharkhand on July 30. According to the police, the two middle-aged men of the family allegedly killed the other members and then took their own lives.
That same month, a family of six was found dead at their residence in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh.
