In a unique surgery that lasted for five hours at a hospital in Amritsar, doctors removed at least 40 knives from inside the body of a policeman. The reason for the presence of knives inside the body of the policeman, Surjeet Singh, is that he liked eating them.

"The patient told us that he suffered from an uncontrollable urge to consume knives," Jitendra Malhotra, a surgeon at Corporate Hospital, Amritsar, who was a part of the five-member team that operated upon Singh, told ANI. The doctors called the experience as "unnerving."

"This was very unnerving, not witnessed something like this in my career as a doctor," Malhotra said.

The operation was declared successful and the man told the reporters that he felt like eating them. Singh reportedly swallowed 28 knives during the last two months. 

"We had no information about his diagnosis. When we started with the diagnosis and the lab investigations, we came to know that it is not a routine case. Later on we did his ultrasound where we found out that there is some solid object inside his stomach having the shape of a cancer,"Malhota recalled. "To ensure that there are no knives left, we did a metallic scan. What is astonishing is the fact is that the patient was eating the knives for last two months."
