A four-month-old baby died onboard a Bangalore-Patna IndiGo flight after he developed breathing problems.
The incident took place on Tuesday (July 31), following which the flight 6E 897 made an emergency landing at Hyderabad. However, the infant could not be saved.
According to reports, the baby and his parents were on board an early morning flight. At around 7:30 am the flight was diverted to the Hyderabad Airport, PTI quoted sources as saying. An ambulance and a doctor were also arranged for the baby at the airport.
On landing, the infant was rushed to a private hospital but was declared brought dead.
The police have registered a case under section 174 (Police to inquire and report on suicide) of the Code Of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
Meanwhile, the IndiGo airlines has expressed condolences for the infant's death.
"An IndiGo flight 6E 897 operating from Bangalore to Patna was diverted to Hyderabad due to a medical case this morning. The crew, along with a doctor on-board, attended to an infant. After landing, the infant was immediately rushed to the hospital accompanied by an IndiGo staff member. Unfortunately the infant died," the airline said in a statement.
The IndiGo airlines had made news a few days ago after one of its passengers was detained after he shouted that the flight from Chandigarh to Srinagar had been hijacked. The flyer who has been identified as Daswinder Kumar, had also asked his fellow passengers not to untie their seat belts as the flight had been hijacked.
Investigations have revealed that Kumar, a native of Punjab, was playing a prank.
