A day after the CCTV footage of a man kidnapping a three-year-old girl from Mumbai's Chatrapti Shivaji Terminus Station was released, the victim and the accused were found in Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
Last month, Sangita Pawar was kidnapped from CST station but was rescued in Haridwar, police said.
The accused is identified as Raju and has been taken under custody by Haridwar Police.
On Saturday, Mumbai Railway Police said that the Haridwar police arrested the alleged kidnappers based on the photo and CCTV footage released by them.
"They have confirmed that the accused shown in the video is the same and if that happens, then I am very thankful to the Haridwar Police. A team of railway police will be sent to Haridwar to identify the accused and to seek his custody accordingly," Mumbai Railway Police Commissioner Prabhat Kumar said.
"He was in Haridwar for the last ten days...He used to sleep at Ganga ghats...He was nabbed from the bus stand and was planning to go somewhere else," Arun Mohan Joshi, SSP of Haridwar, told NDTV.
The video shows a man alighting from a train, walks around the waiting room, observes a family sleeping on the platform with a small baby, sits beside them and then picks up the toddler and walks away.
The parents of the toddler have confirmed their daughter's identity based on the photos aired on Television channels.
Pawar's parents are contract labourers from Parbhani district in Vidarbha, Maharashtra who clean railway tracks. They were to board a train to their hometown in the night but missed it. So, they slept on the platform to catch the next train in the morning.
Mumbai police have registered a kidnapping case against Raju.
