The bubbly girl of B-Town has always mesmerised her viewers with her acting talent. The lady who dropped her career for raising her family has many blockbuster hits to her credit and of course now the Bengali beauty has come back. But Kajol has also turned down many movies, which were admired by the audience and got appraisals in the film industry.
Here is a list of a few notable movies rejected by Kajol.
3 Idiots (2009)
Aamir Khan-starrer "3 Idiots" broke all opening box office records in India on its release. The blockbuster film was first offered to Kajol instead of Kareena, but the former turned down the offer. Kajol was not happy with the role offered (eventually played by Kareena Kapoor) by the director Rajkumar Hirani, according to Pinkvilla.
Veer-Zaara (2004)
"Veer-Zaara", a love story of two countries, was a massive hit in Bollywood film industry. The director Yash Chopra offered the role of 'Zaara' opposite Shah Rukh Khan to Kajol initially. But she turned down the offer and then it was played by Preity Zinta.
Chalte Chalte (2003)
"Chalte Chalte", a hit in box office, starred Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji. The movie was supposed to be done by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, but she left it due to her then boyfriend Salman Khan who created trouble on the sets. It was then offered to Kajol but she too rejected it because of parenthood and later her cousin Mukerji came to the rescue.
Shakti: The Power (2002)
The lead role as 'Nandini' in the film "Shakti" was supposed to be performed by Sridevi, but she turned it down as she got pregnant. The director then thought to offer the role to Kajol, but when offered the actress rejected it too. Later it went to Karisma Kapoor, which proved to be the best performance in her career, though the film was not a hit.
Mohabbatein (2000)
Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan starrer "Mohabbatein" was a success and won many awards. Initially, the role of 'Megha' who appeared in flashbacks as Khan's lover was offered to Kajol. But the actress rejected the offer and later it was passed on to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006)
Karan Johar directed "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna" became the highest grossing Indian films of all time overseas on its release. The role of 'Maya', eventually played by Rani Mukerji, was first offered to Johar's dearest friend Kajol. But she turned down the offer, which made the director and Khan upset.
Dil To Pagal Hai (1997)
The biggest hit film "Dil To Pagal Hai" starred Madhuri Dixit and Shah Rukh Khan in the lead and Karisma Kapoor in the supporting role. The character of 'Nisha' was offered to Kajol but she backed out from the offer because she doesn't want to do a supporting role and also she stated that she can't dance. It was initially offered to Raveena Tandon, but she rejected it. Eventually Kapoor got the role and also won the national Award.
Khamoshi: The Musical (1996)
"Khamoshi" was a musical film which won several awards, though was a flop in box office. The role performed by Manisha Koirala was first offered to the Bengali beauty Kajol. But the actress turned down the offer.
Apart from the above, there were rumours that Kajol was also offered the roles in the film "Dil Se" (1998), "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" (1999), "Kal Ho Naa Ho" (2003) and "Baabul" (2006).
