Three people died on Thursday morning while cleaning an underground drain near Palayam in Kozhikode.
The victims include two cleaning workers, hailing from Andhra Pradesh, and an auto driver, P Naushad of Vengeri, who tried to rescue the workers.
It is understood that the three died inside the drain due to lack of oxygen.
Even though locals and fire force officers immediately started rescue operations, they couldn't save the lives of the victims.
Minister MK Muneer has reportedly announced an aid of Rs 1 lakh to the families of the victims. Prashanth Nair, Kozhikode Collector has also promised to help to the families of the deceased.
