Come Monday, the fifth day of the second Test and the final day of their South Arica sojourn, the willow-wielding Indian batsmen will need to stand up and be counted one more time.
At 68 for two, a deficit of 98 runs, India find themselves facing a real test of their resolve and fight against a South Africa side determined to break through and pick up a win as a tribute to their greatest ever player Jacques Kallis, who marked his final Test match with a typically assured hundred on Sunday.
The onus will be on Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli, two of India's most consistent batsmen on the tour, to bat until at least Lunch. If India can play the first session without losing a wicket, while slowly but surely reducing that deficit, then the away side should be OK.
Another factor that might play into MS Dhoni and co's hands could be the weather, with rain and bad light expected to come into play at some point in the match.
For South Africa, it is simple, skittle the batsmen out as quickly as possible, and knock out the run required, if any, before rain decides to intervene.
Dale Steyn, after his brilliant burst in India's first innings, will be the man to watch with the ball in his hand yet again, while the likes of Morne Morkel and Vernon Philander will also be keen to get amongst the wickets on a momentous day for South African cricket.
Kallis, in his final day as a Test player, will also want to make an impact with the red cherry in his hand, and the India batsmen need to make sure they do not get caught up by the occasion, and just concentrate on the job at hand.
