Suriya's "24" has got a flying start in the U.S. The movie had its premiere show on the evening of Thursday, May 5, and the audience's response has been positive as it collected $158,780 from 133 reported screens.
"#24TheMovie premiers reported gross till now $158,780 from 133 locations," Midwest Movies tweeted. It has also become the biggest opening for a Suriya film in the U.S.
"#24TheMovie USA Gross $46277, crosses both #Anjaan & #Maass premiere even before first show starts! Expect huge weekend based on reviews!!" Atmus Entertainment posted. However, the final report on the collection is yet to be revealed.
The movie has been released in over 270 screens in Tamil and Telugu languages in the U.S. The bilingual flick has garnered highly positive reviews and this factor is expected to boost the collection of the movie in the weekend.
However, the industry was expecting "24" to surpass the collection of Vijay's "Theri," which earned over $211,000 from its premiere show. It had also become the third-highest grosser from the U.S. premiere shows after Rajinikanth's films like "Lingaa" ($404,566) and "Endhiran" ($260,000). But the early trends show that the Suriya-starrer is unlikely to beat the record.
Meanwhile, the movie has been grandly welcomed by the audience in Tamil Nadu. The film is likely to break several records at the box office.
Vikram Kumar's "24," which also stars Samantha and Nithya Menen in the female lead roles, is a science-fiction movie about time travel. Suriya himself has produced the film under his home banner of 2D Entertainment.
The movie has won the hearts of the audience with its good content and brilliant performance of Suriya.
