The Telugu version of Suriya's much-hyped movie "24" has made decent collection at the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana (AP/T) box office in its first weekend. Its business is better than that of Sai Dharam Tej's "Supreme."
Suriya is one of the most popular Tamil actors in AP/T, and the promos of his latest "24" had received superb response from the Telugu audience. In addition, the makers had adopted several new publicity strategies and also shelled out a hefty sum on its promotions. The trade analysts from T-Town had predicted that the movie would fare better than Sai Dharam Tej's "Supreme."
The Sai Dharam Tej and Raashi Khanna-starrer, released in over 500 screens in the two states, opened to decent response and made good collections. "Supreme" has collected Rs. 12.70 crore gross at the AP/T box office in the four-day extended first weekend and become the highest grosser for the young mega-family hero. It has earned Rs. 8.73 crore for its distributors.
Meanwhile, the Suriya and Samantha-starrer was released in over 350 cinema halls in the Telugu-speaking states, and received superb response. Having stayed rock-steady on the following days, "24" has collected Rs. 10.55 crore gross at the AP/T box office in its opening weekend. The film has earned Rs. 6.78 crore for its distributors in three days.
The film "24," which had a marginal drop on weekdays, has continued to keep the cash registers ringing on the weekdays. The film is set emerge as the biggest-earning Telugu flick for Suriya, beating the record of "7th Sense," which had fetched its distributors Rs. 15 crore, according to Andhra Box Office.
Vikram Kumar's success rate and massive promotions apparently helped Suriya achieve this feat. The film "24" could have been an even bigger success if it had not clashed with "Supreme," feel trade analysts.
