At least 22 migrants attempting to reach Greece drowned off Turkey's Aegean coast in the Edremit area of Balikesir province on Monday, according to Turkey's Anadolu Agency.
Earlier Dogan news agency reported the death of 11 migrants. Their bodies were recovered near the Aegean resort of Dikili in the province of Izmir where their boat sunk, Associated Press reports. Three others were rescued from the site of incident.
The deceased, along with the three survivors, were trying to reach the Greek island of Lesbos from Turkey.
As many as 374 migrants have been killed while crossing the sea to reach Greece so far in 2016, the International Organisation for Migration has said.
