2023 Amarnath Yatra surpasses last year's numbers within 27 days; signals successful pilgrimage [details]

Within 27 days of its commencement, the ongoing Amarnath Yatra 2023 has achieved a momentous milestone, surpassing the total number of pilgrims from the previous year. This year's Yatra is 62 days long

This year's holy Amarnath Yatra is 62 days long as the pilgrimage was started on July 1 and will culminate on August 31 on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. It is for the first time that Amarnath Yatra will be 62 days long.

In 2022, the pilgrimage lasted 43 days from June 30 to August 11. The pilgrimage was not held in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID and only symbolic 'Chhari Pujan' was performed by selective priests.

In 2019, the yatra was curtailed by about 15 days ahead of the August 5 decisions of the Central Government to abrogate Article 370 and Article 35-A and bifurcated the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh.
