German sports car specialist Porsche tasted unprecedented success with its first-ever SUV, the Cayenne in 2003. The confidence that auto firm received from Cayenne prompted them to bring out the smaller Macan SUV in 2014. Porsche has now sold more than 3,50,000 examples of the Macan so far adding another feather to its cap. Four years down the line, Porsche has now updated the Macan SUV as the competition tightened like never before.
2018 Porsche Macan has a mid-life facelift and the visual changes are not very appealing. On the exterior, the new Macan has tweaked the front bumper, new LED projector headlights and a full-width LED strip between the tail lights in line with Cayenne and Panamera.
The new version of the SUV is offered in choices of 20 and 21-inch alloy wheels and Porsche has added a new exterior colour option called Miami Blue.
Inside the cabin, the centre console has been updated with a larger touchscreen for the infotainment system. The 11-inch touchscreen is a major step up from the 7-inch that is available in its outgoing version.
The new Macan also boasts of a GT sports steering wheel inherited from the 911 sports car range. A 'Sport Response Button' has been integrated into the steering wheel and is offered as part of the optional Sports Chrono Package. A heated windshield and an ionizer to clean the air inside are other additions inside the cabin.
Porsche has not yet revealed the details of the new engine line-up. The base version is expected to be offered with 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol powertrain, while the top-spec Macan Turbo may draw power from a 2.9-litre turbocharged V6.
All the engines will be mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox with steering wheel-mounted shift paddles. Porsche has also recently hinted at dropping the diesel powertrain from its vehicle. This could mean that the Macan S Diesel may not be the part of 2018 edition.
Porsche Macan goes up against Audi Q5, BMW X4, Jaguar F-Pace and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe. The company currently sells the pre-facelift version in India priced between Rs 80.38 lakh to Rs 1.52 crore (ex-showroom).
