South Korean auto major Hyundai is putting new facelifted Elite i20 through rigorous testing in India. The model has been caught on camera yet again in the south Indian city of Chennai.
The folks at MotorBeam have shared the images of the new Elite i20. Unfortunately, the spy shots do not reveal anything except the wheels of the new Elite i20. Hyundai is reportedly testing the Elite i20 in a highly camouflaged form suggesting the changes could be more than just cosmetic updates.
While the Elite i20 is likely to retain the overall body proportion of the current model in the market, changes are expected at the front and rear. The new Elite i20 is likely to get new front grille with chrome highlight as seen in the new Xcent and Grand i10. The headlamp and the front bumper are also likely to undego changes. At the rear, expect redesigned bumper and new taillamps. The positioning of the number plate is also expected to be changed. The side profile of the Elite i20 facelift is likely to be identical to the current version.
The changes are also expected inside the cabin. While the hatchback is expected to offer safety features such as airbags and ABS as standard, the new Elite i20 could also get updated infotainment system in place with Apple CarPlay and Android connectivity.
So far there is no news about any change in the engine of the elite i20. The current version of the Elite i20 in the market is powered by 1.4 litre CRDi diesel, 1.2 litre and a 1.4 litre petrol engines. While the diesel is tuned to generate 89hp of power and 220Nm of torque paired to 6-speed manual transmission, the petrol mills get 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic transmission. The new Elite i20 is also likely to see the same engines. Hyundai could also add 1.0-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder petrol engine under the hood of the Elite i20.
The new Elite i20 facelift is expected to be launched in the country in early 2018.
