German car maker Volkswagen is currently testing sixth-generation of the Polo hatchback in South Africa ahead of its global debut expected by the end of this year. The company has now released a teaser video of the test mules and that sheds some light on the new avatar of the hatchback.

The new model in the 26-second video wears full camouflage and hence it is difficult to spot the change in the direction of design. However, the video makes it clear that the new Polo will be longer and wider than the outgoing model. This is expected to free up more space inside. The hatchback will also adopt VW's shrunken MQB platform in place of A05 (PQ25) platform.
More importantly, the silhouette of the car in the video is in line with the leaked images of the purported model last month. Judging by the leaked images, next generation Polo will get a more edgy design. Polo's latest version will flaunt a new bumper with restyle front grille and fog lamps. The headlights are slimmer than current version, and there appears to be angular running lights inside the cluster.
The rear of the Polo has also been revised with new tail lamps and redesigned bumper. Although the images do not reveal the interiors, reports say Volkswagen's familiar switches and touchscreen infotainment systems are in place, and fit and finish are top-notch.
The hatchback is expected to be available with an array of both petrol and diesel mills. One or two turbo-charged petrol engines are also in the cards. In India, the Polo is likely to continue with the same engine options of the current model. The top-spec GTI model has been rumored with a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine that churns out 198bhp.
