German car maker Volkswagen will unveil the sixth generation of its popular hatchback Polo later today at a gala event in Berlin. However, the photos of new car, including GTI trim, have been leaked online hours ahead of debut.

Leaked images show the new Polo in a new design in line with the large hatchback, the Golf. The next-gen Polo will also share common components with its larger sibling. The angular headlamps incorporate daytime running lights while the new grille gets chrome touches. The bonnet gets crease lines and front bumper has also been tweaked. A prominent shoulder line starting from front fender and running through door handles and covering the rear of the car is a new addition. A previous teaser image of Volkswagen Polo confirmed angular tail lamp. The exterior package is topped off with snazzy diamond cut alloy wheels.
The new Polo reportedly measures 4,053mm in length, 1,751mm in width and 1,446mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,564mm. This means the new model is larger and wider than its predecessor. Bigger dimensions are expected to free up more interior space.
In the new avatar, the Polo hatchback moves from the PQ25 platform to the lighter MQB A0 platform. The shift in the platform will make the new Polo weigh less and is expected to boost overall performance.
The hatchback is likely to be available in an array of both petrol and diesel mills. A couple of turbo-charged petrol engines-- purportedly 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder and the 1.5-litre TSI Evo four-cylinder-- are also on the cards. While a naturally aspirated 1.0-litre MPI petrol engine will be the base offering, the diesel option will be 1.6-litre TDI four-cylinder.
