Japanese car maker Suzuki has been working on new generation of the Swift hatchback and recently leaked image showed how the latest version of the hatchback will look like. Emerging reports indicate Maruti Suzuki will launch the new Swift during the festive season of 2017 and it will be equipped with AMT transmission during launch.
The global debut of the Swift is expected at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March. For international markets, the new Swift is rumoured to be offered with a four-cylinder 1.2-litre Dualjet diesel engine and three cylinder 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo petrol engine. The diesel engine will be available in two configurations, one with five-speed manual transmission and, the second with SHVS mild-hybrid mated to CVT transmission. In both configurations, the Swift will develop 90bhp. As for the petrol mill, the 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine developing 100bhp is the most probable mill.
For India, The new Swift is likely to continue with the 1.2 litre petrol and 1.3 litre diesel engines, which does duty in the current model. In addition to the five-speed manual transmission, the diesel variants of the Swift will get AMT gearbox like its compact sedan sibling, Swift Dzire, reports Carwale.
On the design, leaked images indicates Suzuki has decided it to give a new look. Although the new Swift maintains the characteristic lines and appearances of the current model, it does adapt to new changes. It gets a new bold front grille outlined with chrome, clamshell like bonnet and fog lamp enclosure. It is now expected to get a new headlamp cluster with integrated LED daytime running lamps, larger air dams and LED tail lamps. The new Swift is also expected to get more upmarket interiors that features new infotainment system compatible to Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink compatibility, twin-pod instrument cluster and new steering wheel.
