Have you booked or plan to drive away the new Maruti Suzuki Dzire compact sedan? Well, with the high demand, you may have to brace for a three-month long wait to hold the steering wheel of your heart's craving. Because, the Dzire, a new avatar of the compact sedan without the moniker Swift, went on sales in India on May 16 and got an overwhelming response.
The new model, a complete sedan with a slew of features onboard, promises to be one of the best selling models of Maruti Suzuki. Maruti Suzuki launched the new Dzire in the country at a price tag starting at Rs. 5.45 lakh and the compact sedan already had over 44,000 bookings within the first 10 days of its launch. Then the waiting period of the new Dzire in India was up to eight weeks. Gradually as its demand continues to surge ahead, the waiting period got longer and it now commands a waiting period of up to three months.
Based on the company's Heartect platform that also underpins premium hatchback Baleno, the new Dzire is wider by 40mm and has enhanced shoulder room in front by 20mm and rear by 30mm. It also gets an additional boot space of 62 litres and extra legroom of 55mm.
Under the hood, the new Dzire gets same tried and tested 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol and 1.3-litre, four-cylinder diesel engines of the previous model. While petrol engine churns out 82bhp at 6,000rpm and 113Nm of torque at 4,200rpm, the diesel model is tuned to dish out 74bhp at 4,000rpm and 190Nm at 2,000rpm.Transmission is handled by five-speed manual gearbox, which comes as standard and five-speed AMT.
The new Dzire gets safety features such as dual airbags, ABS with EBD, pre-tensioner seatbelts and ISOFIX Child seat restraint system as standard in all models.
