2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire unveiled, set to be launched on May 16; all you need to know

After many spy shots and leaked images, Maruti Suzuki has unveiled the next generation of the Swift Dzire in India. The new version of the compact sedan has dropped Swift in the name and it will enter the market on May 16.

The best-selling sedan of India's largest car-maker now comes with a more young design. The rounded body panels with a flowing design clearly indicate that the company is targeting young buyers. Here is what you need to know on the new Dzire.

Design

The most notable change of the car comes at front. The face gets ample amount of chrome touches to flaunt a new look, with additions such as large grille at the front and sweptback projector headlights and LED Daytime Running Lights. The side profile has been inspired from the Baleno, especially the model with a more curvy A-pillar and sloped roofline. The top-end variants will be equipped with newly designed alloy wheels. At the rear, the newly designed tail lamps with LED strip, tweaked bumper and chrome slat over the number plate adds to the design's richness. The addition makes the rear of new Dzire better integrated and looks less chopped.

Dimensions and weight

The new Dzire comes with a slightly longer wheelbase of 2,450mm that helps to free up 50mm more legroom at the rear. At 3,995mm in length, the Dzire still remains a sub-four-metre sedan and it is now 20mm wider and a 40mm shorter in height. The boot space has been increased by 60-litres and the vehicle is now lighter by 105 kilograms. The new Dzire now sits a bit lower at 163mm from the ground – that's 7mm of short over the outgoing model.

Interior

The cabin of the new version has been borrowed from the new Swift hatchback unveiled in December 2016 in Japan. Dual-tone colour treatment will stay intact. The cabin gets generous dose of faux wood trim even at the lower portion of the flat-bottom steering wheel and dashboard fasci. The tablet sized infotainment system at the centre of dash is compatible to Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirror Link. Addition of rear AC vents is an inviting addition in the new Dzire.

Engines

Built on the Heartect platform, new Dzire continue with the current tried and tested engines. The 85bhp 1.2-litre petrol and the 75bhp 1.3-litre diesel mills come mated to five-speed manual transmission. Both engines are also available now with Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) or AGS in Maruti speak except the base trim.

Variants and price

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire will be available in four trim levels – LXi/LDi, VXi/VDi, ZXi/ZDi and ZXi+/ZDi+. It is expected to be priced from Rs 5.5 to Rs 9.5 lakh, ex-showroom.
