Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest carmaker rarely gets it wrong when it comes to its product line-up for Indian customers. The carmaker, with a healthy command of 50 percent, nearly half of the market share in the Indian automobile industry, may just have scripted yet another success story. Thanks to its latest offering, the new Dzire 2017.
Barely a fortnight since the launch of the new compact sedan in a new avatar, figures indicate the model is attracting Indian auto enthusiasts to the dealerships in the country in hordes. At the last count, the new Dzire had already sealed 44,000 bookings; an indicator the automaker has its hands firmly on the nation's pulse.
Interestingly, the bookings for the new model opened from May 5, a good 10 days before the official launch. At that time, the compact sedan, which is in its third generation in the country, already, had booking figures of 33,000. Since then, it has added 11,000 bookings shoring its popularity in the market.
The new Dzire, which claims to be an authentic sedan design, is built on the company's HEARTECT platform, which also underpins its Maruti Suzuki's popular premium hatchback, Baleno. The new Dzire is wider by 40mm and has enhanced shoulder room in front by 20mm and rear by 30mm.
Under the hood, 2017 Dzire carries over the engine of its previous model. The new Dzire has two engine options-- 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol and 1.3-litre, four-cylinder diesel. While the petrol will churn out 82bhp at 6,000rpm and 113Nm of torque at 4,200rpm, the diesel models will generate 74bhp at 4,000rpm and 190Nm at 2,000rpm.
The compact sedan comes loaded with features such as Touchscreen infotainment system with AppleCarPaly, Android Auto and Mirror Link connectivity, flat bottom steering with audio-mounted controls, driver side tilted central instrument console and rear AC vents.
