It looks like the launch date of the new compact SUV from the house of iconic Jeep has almost been confirmed as emerging reports suggest that Compass could be launched in August.
Jeep started the production of the new Compass at FCA's Ranjangaon plant in Maharashtra from June 1. Although the launch of the new Compass has been confirmed for the third quarter of this financial year, Jeep is yet to reveal details on the exact launch date of the compact SUV. Now, a report of IndianAutosBlog reveals that the launch has been scheduled for August, without specifying the launch date.
Compass is the first 'made in India' vehicle from Jeep in association with its parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. The most affordable SUV of the Jeep is expected to be priced between Rs. 18 lakh and Rs. 25 lakh.
In India, Compass will be sold in three variants -- Sport, Longitude and Limited. It will be powered by a 2.0-litre MultiJet diesel engine and a 1.4-litre MultiAir turbo petrol engine options. The diesel mill will develop 170hp and 350Nm of torque mated to a six-speed manual transmission in both 4x2 and 4x4 configurations. On the other hand, the petrol mill will belt out 160hp and will also come with 4x2 and 4x4 options. A six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic will be offered with the petrol mill.
The new Compass will include an array of safety features such six airbags, reverse camera including sensors, ABS, ESP, electronic roll-over mitigation and hill-start assist. The FCA plant in Maharashtra will also make Compass for the export markets such as Japan, South Africa, Australia and the UK.
