Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) is reportedly planning to launch the successor of Unicorn 150 bike. The 150cc bike is hugely popular among commuter bike buyers and has not received major changes for over a decade.

Now, a patent image of the purported model has been leaked online. The image posted by Gaadiwaadi indicates that the new Unicorn will ditch its ageing design and move for a sharp and contemporary outlook. It looks like the angular body panels are inspired from Hornet 160R. The model in the patent image also sports with split alloy wheels identical to Hornet 160R.
The headlamp is narrow in the new version and it gets angular top-ends. Separated grab rails for pillion, single piece seat, bigger tank extensions and upright handlebar are the other noticeable additions. Since the Unicorn 150 is a price sensitive model, cost-effective telescopic forks upfront and monoshock suspension at the rear will be carried forward.
The specifications too expected to remain untouched. Unicorn 150 is powered by single-cylinder air cooled 149.1ccc engine that develops 13.14bhp at 8500rpm and 12.84Nm of torque at 5500rpm mated to five speed manual transmission. Honda claims the current Unicorn 150 can reach top speed of 101kmph. New version will be slightly faster than this.
Unicorn 150 is one of the top selling bikes in the burgeoning 150cc segment in India. It was one of the first models of the Japanese company that helped to establish its name in the Indian market. After a decade of sales that include three facelifts Honda pulled the plug on Unicorn 150 in late 2014 to make way for the Unicorn 160. However, due to the higher demand for the Unicorn 150, the company re-launched the motorcycle at the Auto Expo 2016.
