Skoda Auto India Private Limited (SAIPL) teased the image of its new 2016 Superb flagship sedan a couple of days ago on its website. Now, the emerging reports indicate that the launch is not far and the car can be expected in February itself.
A report on Carwale claims that the company has confirmed the launch in India on Feb. 23. The 2016 Skoda Superb is built on the VW Group's MQB platform, which also underpins the Audi A3 and the Skoda Octavia. In the latest generation, the car features a new design based on the VisionC concept car showcased at the Geneva Motor Show 2014. The new design language features more angular design. The sharp creases on the shoulder line and body lines in bonnet are in tune with the new generation Octavia.
The 2016 model is lighter by 75kg than the outgoing model. The third generation measures 4861mm in length, 1864mm in width and 1468mm in height with 80mm increased wheelbase. On interior, the width of the rear seat has been increased by 69mm and the increase in wheelbase will result in more cabin space for both row of passengers.
Being the flagship sedan of Skoda, the new model will be packed with comfort features such as three way climate control, park assist with a camera, panoramic sunroof, multi-function steering wheel, 12-speaker stereo system with touch screen head unit and electric and ventilated seats.
The new car will be offered in petrol and diesel mills. The petrol engine is expected to be the 1.8-litre TSI unit that also does duty in the Skoda Octavia, while the diesel one will be a 2.0-litre TDI turbocharged engine. The engines will be mated to six-speed manual transmission and seven-speed DSG transmission.
