Japanese carmaker Mitsubishi has re-launched the Montero SUV in India for starting price of Rs 71.06 lakh, ex-showroom, Mumbai. Mitsubishi previously sold fourth generation Pajero as Montero in India till 2014 before it got discontinued due to poor sales.
New version of the Montero sports a new bonnet and chrome-finished large grille. The grille is flanked by a set of resigned headlamps. The tweaked front bumper now houses an LED strip lamps. Side and rear profile of the SUV largely remains untouched barring the new set of six twin-spoke alloy wheels.
The new Montero is loaded with features such as rain sensing wipers, automatic lights, keyless entry and automatic climate control. It comes with a Rockford Acoustic Design sound system with 12 speakers offers bluetooth connectivity. Safety features include the dual front airbags, active stability and traction control with brake assist and ABS with EBD.
Latest version of the Montero is powered by a 3.2-litre, in-line 4-cyl, Common rail DI-D diesel engine that develops 189bhp at 3,800rpm and 441Nm of torque at 2,000rpm mated to a five-speed automatic transmission with sports mode. The SUV will be equipped with Super Select 4-wheel drive II and all wheel traction control (AWC). The SUV is employed with a double-wishbone suspension setup at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear.
The new Montero measures 4900mm in length, 1875mm in width, 1900mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,780mm wheelbase. It comes with 215mm ground clearance and 2335kg kerb weight. The Montero will be sold in seven colour options: warm white, white solid, black, Eiger grey, cool silver, quartz brown and platinum beige.
The SUV will be brought to India as Completely Built Unit (CBU) and deliveries are expected to begin from December.
