Hyundai Motor India Limited is set to launch the new Elantra sedan in the country most likely in September. Ahead of the launch, many Hyundai dealers have started bookings for the latest version of the sedan. However, the company has not officially commenced bookings yet.
The dealers have started bookings for the new Elantra for a token amount of Rs. 25,000, reports IndianAutosBlog. The 2016 Elantra made its global debut in Korea in September 2015. In its latest avatar, the Elantra takes a deviation from the Fluidic design philosophy of Hyundai, and sports an edgy look. New Elantra will measure 4610mm in length, 1800mm in width, and 1450mm in height and have a wheelbase of 2700mm.
The new version comes with prominent hexagonal grille in chrome, flanked by a pair of swept-back headlamps. The sedan features prominent character lines and new alloy wheel design on the sides while the rear-end gets wide LED taillights. The 2016 Elantra will feature a new steering wheel and a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation.
Powering Elantra in India will be a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol motor and a 1.6-litre diesel unit. The petrol engine is expected to develop 148bhp while the diesel mill's power output will be 136bhp. Both engines will be mated to a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmissions.
Hyundai is expected to price the new Elantra in the range of Rs. 13 lakh to Rs. 17 lakh. It will stack up against Toyota Corolla Altis, Volkswagen Jetta, Skoda Octavia and Chevrolet Cruze.
