Mahindra's upcoming Scorpio facelift has been spied testing in the country once again, in what appears to in be its final testing phase, prior to its market debut during this festive season.
Last week, we reported that the production of Mahindra's new Scorpio is in full swing at the company's facility as Mahindra plans to roll out 5,000 units of new Scorpio facelift before launch. Now a new prototype of the Scorpio has been caught on test by Motoroids reader Vicky Dogra from Manali, Himachal Pradesh.
Although the SUV is believed to be in the final stages of production, even in the latest set of spy shots everything of the Scorpio is seen neatly hidden under the camouflage. However, we still have an idea of the changes and the design of the new Scorpio avatar.
Scorpio facelift will retain almost the same body kit and design of its current model; however, we expect it to host a new front fascia design with restyled headlight and grille. Out back, the facelifted Scorpio is likely to get new LED taillights.
Power is expected to come from the same tried and tested 2.2 litre four-cylinder turbo-charged mHawk diesel engine, which does duty in the current Scoprio. The engine currently has the capacity to churn out 120 bhp power and 290 Nm torque. The engine is likely to come synchronised to six-speed automatic transmission to deliver better performance.
Inside the cabin, the new Scorpio facelift is expected to host new features like automatic climate control, rectangular design central consoles AC vents, steering-mounted controls for audio and cruise control. Recent reports suggest that the top end variant of Scorpio facelift will get seven-inch touch-screen with satellite navigation and rear-view camera.
Although Mahindra is yet to announce the launch date of its new Scorpio model, from what we have heard so far, we believe the SUV will reach the market by mid-October. When launched, Scorpio facelift will be pinned to rival Tata Safari Storme, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano in India and the SUV is likely to get a price tag in the ₹8 lakh to ₹13 lakh range.
