Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor starrer romantic comedy "2 States" is successfully marching towards the ₹100 crore club at the domestic box office.
The film, helmed by Abhishek Varman, has started its third week on a very positive note. No big budget films have released this week, and the two films which hit the screens on Friday (2 May) have failed to make a mark, ultimately boosting "2 States" business.
At the worldwide box office, the film has crossed the ₹100 crore mark by the end of its second week, and now the film will enter the club in India.
"2 States" continues to remain strong in its third week. The film fared well on the third Friday and Saturday, taking its overall domestic score to ₹91.68 crore.
"#2States [Week 3] Fri 1.67 cr, Sat 2.70 cr. Grand total: ₹ 91.68 cr nett. India biz. Heading towards ₹ 100 cr mark. SUPER HIT," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The romantic comedy, which is at second position in India in the 2014 box office chart, requires around ₹8 crore more to surpass the century mark. The film will achieve the mark by the end of the third week, if it maintains its pace during weekdays.
"2 States" is one of the most successful films of 2014. Having earned the production cost within the first weekend, the film registered itself into the hit films list. It then went on to earn double the amount of the whole production package, making it a profitable venture for the makers.
If it continues its winning streak at the domestic box office, the film will soon enter the blockbuster list, with other big budget films, including "Chennai Express", "Krrish 3", "Dhoom 3" and "Ek Tha Tiger" among others.
