Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor starrer "2 States" has made it to the ₹100 crore club finally, with its domestic earnings alone.
The romantic comedy, based on Chetan Bhagat's successful novel of the same name, reached the ₹100 crore mark on its fourth Saturday, reported Koimoi. It became the second film after Salman Khan's "Jai Ho" to reach the coveted feat this year.
While "Jai Ho" lifetime collection (domestic net) stands at ₹116 crore (Bollywood Hungama), the exact current figures of "2 States" are not out yet. But the film had also earned a hefty sum of over ₹33 crore from the overseas markets by the end of its third week.
"'2States' Overseas total [after 3 weeks]: $ 5.6 million [₹ 33.59 cr]. USA-Canada $ 2.08 mn, UAE $ 1.23 mn, UK $ 806k, Australia $ 379k," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Saturday.
A rough estimation of "2 States" current figures will stand somewhere around ₹133 crore approximately, making it one of the top earners of 2014.
The Abhishek Varman directorial met with very good response at the box office, ever since its release on 18 April. In its first week, the film had recorded an impressive earnings of around ₹60 crore.
In the second and third week, the film braved competitors like "Revolver Rani", "Kaanchi", "Puraani Jeans" and "The Amazing Spider-Man 2". Even this week, six films "Hawaa Hawaai", "Mastram", "Koyelaanchal", "Yeh Hai Bakrapur", "Manjunath" and "Khwaab" were released but by the looks of it, " 2 States" has remained strong and was not massively affected by any of the new releases.
It should also be noted that the postponement of Rajinikanth's "Kochadaiiyaan" release to 23 May, has worked in "2 States" favour.
