Arjun Kapoor-Alia Bhatt's "2 States" is nearing the ₹50-crore mark in India.
The film took a fantastic opening on the first day of its release, earning over ₹12 crore. Its collections dropped slightly on Saturday (19 April), but picked up on Sunday (20 April)
While the film minted over ₹38 crore in its first weekend, it failed to surpass "Gunday" debut weekend collections, which amounts to ₹43.93 crore.
The business of "2 States" dropped on Monday (21 April) being a week day. The romantic entertainer fetched ₹6.17 crore on Monday and its four-day collections stands at ₹44.23 crore. It has crossed "Ragini MMS-2 (₹39.38 crore) and "Main Tera Herio" (₹38.48 crore) opening week collections.
"#2States Fri 12.42 cr, Sat 12.13 cr, Sun 13.51 cr, Mon 6.17 cr. Total: ₹ 44.23 cr nett. India biz. Very Good!," film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The film is fast nearing the ₹50-crore mark and is expected to surpass it by Tuesday or Wednesday. The Arjun-Alia starrer is likely to end the first week on a good note. However, it remains to be seen if the film will be able to beat "Gunday" opening week collections, which amounts to ₹63.08 crore.
Overseas Markets
The film has emerged as the biggest opener (so far) in 2014 at the US box office. The film has earned over $900,389 in its opening weekend and is all set to enter the $1 million club soon.
It has also performed well in other major markets including Canada, Australia, U.K., UAE-GCC, Malaysia and New Zealand during the first weekend.
