Rajinikanth's 2.0 (Hindi version), which also stars Akshay Kumar in the lead, has taken off to a mild start at the box office in the Hindi belt. Director Shankar's sci-fi film managed to earn Rs 20.25 crore on the opening day (Thursday) despite getting overwhelming response from the audience. Although it was expected to witness a hike in earning on second day, the movie has suffered a fall in its business on day 2.
On Friday, 2.0 managed to earn Rs 18 crore taking the total Hindi box office collection of 2.0 to Rs 38.25 crore. However, it is likely to witness considerable jump in collection over the weekend.
"#2Point0 remained strong on Day 2... Although the film has declined on Day 2, the biz should gather momentum on Day 3 [Sat] and Day 4 [Sun]... Thu 20.25 cr, Fri 18 cr. Total: ₹ 38.25 cr. India biz. Note: HINDI version," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The movie, which is being distributed by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, has received mixed reviews from critics but the positive word of mouth is likely to benefit the film in the longer run.
Though 2.0 has failed to set new benchmarks in the Hindi market, Shankar's film starrer is expected to outshine at the box office considering the huge fan following of lead actors Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar.
For Hindi version, the makers of the film had managed to acquire around 4,000 screens in the northern belt. The total screen count of 2.0 stands somewhere around 7,500 in India and over 2,500 overseas.
With massive screen counts, 2.0 has been allotted around 32,000 to 33,000 shows across India which will further boost the revenue generated from the ticket window alone.
