Rajinikanth's 2.0 is on the verge of becoming the all-time highest grossing film at the Chennai box office. The multilingual movie is in the second place and heading towards shattering the record of the superstar's previous film Kabali.
In its fourth weekend, 2.0 has earned Rs 13.38 lakh from 42 shows. The movie lost a majority of its screens to newly-released movies like Kanaa, Maari 2 and Seethakathi. Yet managed to do a decent business.
The total collection of 2.0 in Chennai now stands at Rs 23.10 crore and getting ready to shatter the record of Kabali, which had raked in Rs 24+ crore in its lifetime. As per the trade trackers, the movie is expected to be screened in a limited number of screens till Rajinikanth's Petta hit the screens for Pongal 2019.
2.0 was released to a gigantic hype and despite being a non-holiday release, the Rajinikanth starrer has raked in Rs 5.09 crore from 933 shows in its first weekend. It managed to dominate screens without much competition and has come out with flying colours at the box office.
Shankar's 2.0 is a science fiction which tells the story of how cell phone towers can be harmful to birds and other species. Akshay Kumar plays the antagonist in the flick, which has Amy Jackson in the female lead.
The Lyca Productions-funded movie is made with the budget of Rs 570 crore.
