Rajinikanth's 2.0 is off to a good start at the worldwide box office. It is the biggest opener for a Tamil superstar movie as it has shattered the opening-day record of 2016 mass entertainer Kabali.
The movie had a positive pre-release talk which helped the movie to get good response for the advance booking in South India. However, the delay in the commencement of advance booking apparently impacted its business. As a result, the movie could not break many existing box office records.
On the opening day, 2.0 has grossed 94.4 crore at the worldwide box office. Surprisingly, the combined collection of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana (Telugu speaking states) is higher than the business made by the Shankar-directorial film in Tamil Nadu.
From Andhra and Telangana, it has raked in Rs 18.1 crore from 1200+ screens. Whereas in Tamil Nadu the Rajinikanth-starrer has earned Rs 17.2 crore. Karnataka and Kerala have contributed Rs 8.1 crore and 4.14 crore gross, respectively, to take its South India business to Rs 47.54 crore.
From North and other parts of India, 2.0 has earned around Rs 24.2 crore to take the domestic total to 71.74 crore. The Shankar's creation has collected Rs 23.2 crore from the overseas centres. The big numbers from the international centres have come from the US (Rs 6.3 crore) and UAE (Rs 6.7 crore).
Thus it has beaten the record of Kabali, which had collected Rs 87.1 crore. Notably, the Hindi version had contributed less in its success and it was the Tamil version which had came out with flying colors.
Kabali raked in Rs 21.5 crore in Tamil Nadu, Rs 12.4 crore in Andhra/Telangana, Rs 4.2 crore in Kerala and Rs 7 crore from rest of India.
Meanwhile, the fairly positive reviews are expected to come handy for 2.0 and taking the good response for the advance booking, it is safe to say that the flick is ending its day two on a positive note.
