After a strong weekend, box office collections of the Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar starring opus 2.0 has witnessed a normal dip on Monday, 3 December, as it was a working day. Despite mixed reviews during release, the movie has managed to enjoy strong footfalls in theatres across the state.
The movie was released in over 600 screens in Tamil Nadu to riding a humongous wave of hype, receiving a fantastic response in terms of advance ticket booking. However, the overall collection was not up to the mark on the first day, earning less than Rajinikanth's previous smash-hit Kabali.
On the day of release, 2.0 earned Rs 18.2 crore and had steady business thereafter. Although there is no clarity on the total business done by 2.0 in the state, a rough estimate indicates that the Rajinikanth-starrer has raked in around Rs 60 crore in five days. The major chunk of its share has come from Chennai, Chengalpet and Coimbatore.
In Chennai alone, 2.0 has grossed Rs 11.41 crore. It has to be noted that the latest flick has got a better start than Rajinikanth's Kaala, which grossed around Rs 45 crore in its four-day weekend.
There is a lot of expectations on the movie as the coming days are crucial for its success at the box office. The movie should gross over Rs 150 crore in TN to be a profitable venture.
Meanwhile, the movie has grossed over Rs 50 crore in the Telugu-speaking states (Andhra and Telangana), Rs 23 crore in Karnataka, Rs 11.8 crore in Kerala and Rs 130 crore in the rest of India.
In the US, the film has raked in Rs 26.88 crore, Rs 22 crore, and about Rs 45 crore from rest of the overseas centres.
