12 coaches of Thiruvananthapuram - Mangalore Express train no: 16347 derailed at Karikutti near Angamaly at about 3.00 a.m. on Sunday. No injuries or casualties reported.
Alternate arrangements have been made for the passengers in the train no: 16347 to continue their journey. The buses will ferry the passengers from Karukutty to Chalakudy and a special train will take them to their destination from there.
While the cause for the accident is yet to be known, Railway authorities said it will take some time to remove the coaches from the track and the trains passing through this route will be affected for at least 10 hours.
Due to the accident, the Railway has cancelled at least 27 trains and some other trains are partially cancelled. Guruvayoor -Thiruvanathapuram inter-city Express has been cancelled. Train No. 16302 Thiruvananthapuram - Shoranur Venad Express and Train No.12076 Thiruvananthapuram - Kannur Janshatabdi Express will now run only up to Ernakulam Jn.
Thiruvannathapuram - Nilambur Road Rajya Rani Express and Chennai Egmore Guruvayur Express will also run only up to Ernakulam.
Thiruvannathapuram - Mumbai CST, Kanyakumari - Bangalore, Alappuzha -Dhanbad, Thiruvannathapuram - Hyderabad Express have been diverted via Tirunelveli - Erode route.
