Ten passengers were killed and 17 seriously injured on Monday morning when they fell into a canal after the bus in which they were travelling hit the railing of a bridge in Korba district in Chhattisgarh.
Seven of the deceased died on the spot, while nine others died at the hospital where they were admitted for treatment. The dead include a nine-year-old girl.
The accident took place about at Morega at 9 am in the morning.
The bus driver, who was allegedly drunk and driving at a high speed leading to the accident, fled the accident spot. The police reached two hours after the accident took place, according to The Times of India.
Most of the passengers were from Korba, Vishrampur, Katghora, Ambikapur and Palamu district of Jharkhand.
A PTI report said that more than 32 passengers were travelling in the bus when the accident occured. The police have registered a case.
