"Vishwaroopam 2", Kamal Haasan's much-awaited magnum opus, is confirmed to release in February 2014.
The film was expected to hit theatres in November this year, but was held back due to post-production work.
Later, some reports claimed that the Kamal starrer would release in January. Buzz was that the film would clash with Ajith's "Veeram" and Vijay's "Jilla", which are set to hit screens during the Pongal festival next year.
The film might release for Valentine's Day (14 February), but an official confirmation on the exact release date is still awaited.
Meanwhile, the trade on "Vishwaroopam 2" has already begun and the first set of deals have taken place. According to entertainment industry tracker Sreedhar Pillai, the distribution rights for Kerala have been purchased for a whopping amount by Sri Kaleeshwari Films, who had earlier bought the release rights for "Singam 2" and "Arrambam". The film's Karnataka distribution rights have been bought by Ganesh pictures.
"#Vishwaroopam2 - First deal happens - Kerala (Kaleeswari Films) & Karnataka (Ganesh Pictures) sold 4 a very good price. Film release Feb," Sreedhar tweeted.
Post the success of "Vishwaroopam", expectations on the sequel have soared. The film has retained most of the star cast from the first part, including Kamal Haasan, Pooja Kumar, Andrea, Rahul Bose and Shekar Kapur. Veteran Bollywood actress Waheeda Rahman and Anant Mahadevan will be new entrants in the sequel.
Waheeda will reportedly play Kamal's mother in "Vishwaroopam 2", which is laced with a strong mother-son sentiment. While the first part was extensively shot in foreign countries like New York, the sequel is set in India.
"Vishwaroopam" released amid much fanfare after facing a ban in Tamil Nadu. The film went on to become a blockbuster, raking in more than ₹100 crore at the box office. Only time will tell if "Vishwaroopam 2" will exceed the first part's expectations.
The buzz surrounding "Vishwaroopam 2" is quite positive. The film's trailer was shown to a few celebrities who have given good feedback.
Senior visual effects supervisor of "Vishwaroopam 2", Madhusudhanan, had tweeted, "I saw the first cut of vr2 trailer! Very very impressive and interesting! Well you fans have to decide! .. I am adding my blocks into it!"
"Now; if we want to thrill you better than VR; yes, we have done that! :-)... I am not going to say anything beyond :-) enjoy the journey!"
The trailer is yet to be released for audience viewing. Earlier, it was expected that the video will be out on Kamal's birthday, but this didn't happen. There is no word on the film's music launch as well.
