Sivakarthikeyan's "Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam" (VVS) still continues to the rule the Chennai box office, despite the release of two new films.

According to senior film journalist Sreedhar Pillai, "VVS" (The society of happy youngsters) dominated the Chennai box office even after the third weekend. Shiva-Santhanam's "Ya Yaa" and Shaam's "6 Melugu Vathigal" did not affect "VVS" collections.

The average theatre occupancy for "VVS" is between 50 and 65 percent in its second week (16-22 September). According to Behindwoods, "VVS" has grossed over ₹7 crore at the end of its second week in Chennai.

The Ganesh Chaturthi weekend, Sivakarthikeyan's comic timing, songs and pre-release promotional activities helped the film get a good opening at the box office.

Positive feedback about "VVS" also worked in its favour and the film has sustained its business for two consecutive weeks. "VVS" has turned out to be big hit and has catapulted Siva to the top league. With the film's success, Siva has scored a hat-trick. His last two films which were released this year - "Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga" and "Ethir Neechal", were also hits.

"VVS" in overseas markets

The comedy entertainer has earned over ₹25.59 lakh at the end of the second weekend. Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, "UK: VARUTHAPADATHA VALIBAR SANGAM - Tamil * after Weekend 2* £ 25,473 [₹ 25.59 lacs]."

New Releases

"VVS" is expected to continue its victorious march till this Friday (27 September) when two Tamil films and one Telugu film are scheduled for release. Arya-Nayanthara's most-awaited film "Raja Rani" and Mysskin's "Onaiyum Aatukuttiyum" will hit screens along with Pawan Kalyan's "Atharintiki Daaredi". All three films are expected to perform well at the box office.
