Sam Bailey is the winner of "The X Factor" UK 2013. The 36-year-old powerhouse was crowned this year's champion during the grand finale held at the Wembley Arena in London on Sunday.
Mentor Sharon Osbourne was in tears throughout the finale which saw big names like Sir Elton John and Gary Barlow, One Direction and Katy Perry perform. Bailey received over 1 million votes this weekend, beating Nicholas McDonald to win the title.
This year's 'X Factor' winner earned herself a £1 million recording contract with Syco Music and will tour with Beyonce on her UK leg of The Mrs.Carter Show World Tour in February.
"I can't believe this. I'm so grateful to everybody. I really am appreciative, thank you," Bailey said.
"Thank you to everyone who's supported me. I can't believe it! Hope I do you proud with this single," she wrote on her Facebook page.
She also said that she is an admirer of fellow finalist McDonald and stated he should come out with an album.
McDonald too was all praise for the woman who beat him in the final. "If I was going to get beaten by anybody it was going to be Sam. Sam is a hard one to beat, but I just want to say thank you to every single person who has voted for me week in and week out," he said.
Luke Friend was sent home after the live performance on Saturday, placing Bailey and McDonald head to head in the grand finale.
Bailey sang "Edge Of Glory" by Lady Gaga and duetted "And I'm Telling You" with Nicole Scherzinger for viewers' votes on Saturday, while McDonald rendered "Candy" by Robbie Williams and "Flying Without Wings" with Shane Filan.
The finalists performed two songs each in the finale: their favourite songs of the series and their potential winning singles. Bailey sang "Power of Love" by Jennifer Rush and Demi Lovato's "Skyscraper", while McDonald chose "Angel" by Sarah McLachlan and Five for Fighting's "Superman (It's Not Easy)".
Bailey sang "Skyscraper" one more time after winning the title. She was initially taken by emotion during the rendition but got back her composure and belted out the song with perfect pitch, giving out a message that she did deserve it.
