To the delight of all Vijay fans, "Thalaivaa" will finally release on 20 August (Tuesday) in Tamil Nadu and Pudhucherry.
"Thalaivaa" release has been stalled in Tamil Nadu for the past two weeks, following threats faced by theatre owners from a political outfit. Now, the issues surrounding the film have been resolved and the Vijay starrer is all set to make it to the theatres on 20 August.
The film's unit was reportedly asked to drop the tagline "Time to Lead" from the posters of "Thalaivaa". "We came to know that the film's tagline 'Time to Lead' wasn't received very well by the state government. We have been advised to drop the tagline from the film's publicity posters and all other forms of promotions ahead of its release on Tuesday," a member from the film's unit told Indo-Asian News Service.
The release of "Thalaivaa" might be a big treat for Vijay fans, but there is now uncertainty over the release of other Tamil films during this weekend. Four new films - "Desingu Raja", "Netru Indhru", "Vidiyum Vare Pesum" and "Mathapu" - were scheduled to release on 23 August (Friday). It is doubtful whether all these films will get released as "Thalaivaa" will hit screens three days ahead of the Friday release.
Vimal's "Desingu Raja" has confirmed its bookings for 23 August release, but other films are in the waiting list, according to senior film journalist Sreedhar Pillai. Moreover, there are four new films - "Thangameengal", "Summa Nachunu Irukku", "Ponmalai Pozhuthu" and "Arya Surya" - which are slated to release on 30 August. Some of these films have already been delayed several times to accommodate big film releases. But the makers are facing pressure from channels having telecast rights to release the films at the earliest, Sreedhar said. It remains to be seen if these lesser-known films will get affected due to "Thalaivaa" release.
The action entertainer, which was released on 9 August in other Indian states (except Tamil Nadu) and overseas markets, have been well received by the audience. It is expected to perform well in Tamil Nadu, where Vijay enjoys a massive fan following.
