Suriya's "Singam 2" is a big hit in the California bay area, with the film reaching 25 days of continuous screening.
On behalf of ATMUS Entertainment (distributors of Tamil films in the US), "Singam 2" exhibitor in the California Bay Area has announced the grand success of the film. According to a report in Indiaglitz.com, "Singam 2" will complete its 100th show on Sunday evening (28 July). The Suriya starrer is still getting screened in three theatres in the Bay Area, even in its fourth week.
A grand celebration has been organised by the exhibitor on Sunday evening. The event will take place at Serra Theatres, Milpitas, during the interval of the 28 July 5 PM show. Suriya will take part in the event via videoconference and talk about the film.
"Singam 2", which was released on 5 July, received fantastic response in India as well as in overseas markets. The film earned more than ₹50 crore from Indian markets in just ten days of its release. Its business at overseas markets including US-Canada, UK, Australia and Malaysia was also overwhelming.
In particular, "Singam 2" witnessed fantastic business at the Malaysian box office earning more than ₹9 crore. It is Suriya's highest grossing film in the country, where his films such as "Vel", "Ayan", "Aadhavan" and "Singam" have also performed well.
"Singam 2" has even grossed more than Vijay's "Thuppakki" and emerged as the fourth highest grosser in Malaysia, after Rajinikanth's "Endhiran," "Sivaji" and Kamal Haasan's "Dasavatharam".
The film, a sequel to 2010-blockbuster "Singam", is about a cop who is on a mission to crack illegal drug supplies in Tamil Nadu.
The racy, action entertainer boasts of a mutil-star cast including Anushka Shetty, Haniska Motwani, Vivek, Santhanam, Mukesh Rishi, Rahman, Nassar and Hollywood actor Danny Sapani. The success of "Singam 2" has left his fans demanding the third part in the "Singam" franchise. It remains to be seen if director Hari and Suriya would oblige to fans' demands and come up with another part of the cop story.
Meanwhile, the Hindi dubbed version of "Singam 2", is getting delayed due to unavoidable reasons. The Hindi film titled "Main Hoon Surya Singham 2" is expected to get released on 2 August.
