Suriya's "Singam 2" has had an impressive start in India as well as in overseas markets.
According to some reports, "Singam 2" which was reportedly made on a budget of ₹45 crore has fetched a collection of ₹24 crores + nett (approx) on the first three days at the domestic box office.
Despite receiving mixed response, the Suriya starrer opened to a grand start in theatres. The first day collections of "Singam 2" (combining TN, Kerala and Karnataka makets) stood at ₹8.15 crore. The film's collections could have been much bigger if the issue on revenue terms with exhibitors had been sorted out before its release in Tamil Nadu. For instance, the film was not released in key collection centers of Kanchipuram, Ambattur and Avadi on the opening day, reported Sify.com.
The film had a solo big release across key markets in India and overseas. In Kerala alone, "Singam 2" was released in 141 screens, possibly the highest screen count for a Tamil film in the state. The local distributor of "Singam 2" planned to screen the film in more screens to get maximum revenue in the first three days of its release before the Ramzan fasting period begins on 8 July.
The action-drama film had a fantastic start in overseas markets as well. "#Singam2 has taken a good 3 -day opening in India and overseas markets. It can b classified a hit. How big will b known in coming days," senior film Journalist Sreedhar Pillai tweeted.
Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh also said that "Singam 2" opened to a great start in international markets. The response for the film is positive in countries like the US, UK, Malaysia and Singapore.
Suriya, brand "Singam" and the film crew's extensive promotions are some of the factors that helped the film to score a good opening in key markets. The film cashed in on the Independence Day (4 July) weekend in the US to rake in more revenue.
After a fantastic three-day opening, the first week is now crucial for "Singam 2". If it continues to go strong at the box office, then the film is likely to emerge a big winner. The film's success will bring respite to Suriya, whose last two films - "7 aum Arivu" and "Maattran", did average business.
The "Singam 2" team is already in high spirits over the response the film has received. Its producers have planned to hold a success meet on Monday (8 July).
