Telugu actor Venkatesh's new movie, "Shadow", which has been panned by film critics, has opened to a grand start both at domestic and overseas box offices.
According to the film's producer Paruchuri Prasad, "Shadow" had the biggest opening in the history of Venkatesh's career. The first day box office collections are said to be huge. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the movie reportedly collected ₹7.5 crore on the first day at the box office in Andhra Pradesh.
Film's director seems to be happy with the bumper opening "Shadow" has received. "Shadow Biggest opening in Victory Venkatesh's career, All Audiences Enjoying the Fights, comedy, sentiment&Songs done by him.MSN comedy@peaks," the director tweeted.
"Youth & Family crowds enjoying laughing riot by MSN,JP,Krishna Bhagavan,Srinvas reddy, Rajesh along with victory Venkatesh," he said.
"Shadow" has also had a good opening at the US box office. The movie earned around ₹9 lakh ($ 16,614) from 40 locations on the first day in the US.
"Telugu film #Shadow USA Thu $16,614 from 40 locations," film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
After a long gap, "victory" Venkatesh has been seen in an out and out action entertainer. "Shadow's" is the usual run of the mill revenge drama, where the hero takes the identity of "shadow" to hunt down the gang that killed his father and other family members.
Taapsee Pannu and Madhurima play the female leads. The rest of the cast include Srikanth, Aditya Pancholi, M S Narayana, Jaya Prakash Reddy, Nassar, Naga Babu and Adithya Menon in supporting roles.
Despite being made on a grand scale, "Shadow" has failed to impress the critics for its lack of substance. However, critics have appreciated the comedy track involving MS Narayana who plays the role of a post mortem specialist.
"Shadow" is expected to do well during this weekend but, it has to be seen if the movie will be able to sustain and do good business at the box office following the negative feedback the movie has received.
