Filmmaker Prakash Jha's latest film Satyagraha has shattered the lifetime record of "Raanjhana", a romantic flick which was released in June.
"Satyagraha", starring Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Arjun Rampal, Amrita Rao and Manoj Bajpai, has fetched in more than ₹63 crore in India.
The film raked in ₹8.31 crore in its second week at the domestic box office.
"Satyagraha [Week 2] Fri 1.28 cr, Sat 1.72 cr, Sun 2.26 cr, Mon 1.08 cr, Tue 72 lacs, Wed 65 lacs, Thu 60 lacs. Total: ₹63.74 cr nett. Theatrical business is ABOVE AVERAGE," trade analyst Taran Adarsh said.
The domestic business of the film is above average because of its high production cost. With the release of new films this Friday, the collections of "Satyagraha" are expected to decline further.
The political drama will manage to earn the budget amount if it maintains a steady pace.
"Weekend collections were decent, but considering the budget, it doesn't look good. Though there was a rise in the collections every day, it fell significantly on Monday. The figures nosedived. You expect a 40 to 50 per cent drop, but not this much. To recover money, the film will face an uphill task," said trade analyst Amod Mehra, according to Hindustan Times.
Although the collections are above average, "Satyagraha" still managed to beat Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor starrer "Raanjhanaa" lifetime collection record of around ₹62 crore.
"Satyagraha" will also break the record of Akshay Kumar's "Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara" which made a total business of around ₹65 crore.
