Bollywood's latest release"Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela" starring Ranveer and Deepika has passed the Monday test by earning ₹8.75 crore on its fourth day of theatrical run.
"#RamLeela passes the 'Monday test'. Collects ₹8.75 cr on Day 4. Very good!" film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
"Ram-leela" opened well on the first day of its release by earning ₹16 crore. The film's collections surged in the following two days - Saturday (₹17.25 crore) and Sunday (₹19.25 to ₹19.50 crore). The opening weekend collections of the film stood at around ₹52.75 crore.
The film's business was affected on Monday (18 November), but is still quite good for a weekday. With the inclusion of Monday's collections, the four-day box office figures of "Ram-leela" stand at ₹61.5 crore. The film raked in ₹25.04 crore in its first weekend at the overseas box office. Its opening weekend business at the international markets is much better than Ranbir Kapoor's "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" ("YJHD") and Hrithik Roshan's "Krrish 3".
The combined collections of the film from India and overseas markets are pegged at around ₹86.55 crore. The film is racing towards the ₹100-crore mark at the worldwide box office.
Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, "Ram-leela" is the Bollywood's new adaptation of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet". Although many of Bhansali's past releases have turned out to be big hits, the Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone starrer has given him the biggest opening ever. It is also the biggest opener for Ranveer followed by "Lootera" and "Ladies vs Ricky Bahl." For Deepika, it is the third biggest opener next to "Chennai express" and "YJHD."
With a few biggies lined up for release in the coming days, it remains to be seen whether "Ram-leela" manages to sustain its business or lose its momentum and witness a drop in collections.
